Job Summary:
The Community Outreach Specialist will support Education & Health Centers of America, Inc.’s (EHCA) Veteran Resource Program by identifying at-risk veterans with unmet needs throughout the state of New Jersey and by fostering connections between at-risk veterans and an array of veteran resources. The Community Outreach Specialist will be responsible for networking and promoting awareness of available Veteran Resource Program services, enhancing engagement within under-served veteran communities, and contributing to the improvement in access to veteran services in New Jersey. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations within the Veteran Resource Program, as assigned, including, but not limited to: participant service connection, case management, case follow-up, collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, development of community partnerships, and reporting on program outcomes.
This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is dependent upon grant funding availability.
Supervisory Relationships: The Community Outreach Specialist reports directly to the Director of Veteran Services.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identify at-risk veterans with unmet needs throughout the state of New Jersey.
- Act as a liaison between veterans and the Veteran Resource Program, ensuring veterans access services.
- Provide referrals to the Veteran Resource Program and follow-up support for veterans seeking services.
- Establish relationships with veteran organizations, community groups, and local agencies on behalf of EHCA’s Veteran Resource Program.
- Represent EHCA at veteran-focused events, meetings, and activities in the community.
- Distribute promotional materials about EHCA’s veteran programs and initiatives.
- Leverage social media, newsletters, and other platforms to promote EHCA’s veteran services and outreach efforts.
- Contribute to the organization and coordination of outreach events, including resource fairs, meetings, conferences, marketing materials, and informational workshops.
- Collaborate with community partners to host joint initiatives aimed at serving veterans throughout the state of New Jersey.
- Advise community leaders, EHCA staff, and community-based volunteers on veteran-specific needs and available resources.
- Contribute to resource guides and presentations to educate stakeholders about Veteran Resource Program offerings.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and interactions with veterans.
- Attend regular meetings at EHCA corporate in order to provide key information and updates related to community outreach and engagement efforts.
- Collaborate with New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs (DMAVA) leadership, EHCA leadership, Veteran Resource Program staff, and external partners to align outreach strategies with Veteran Resource Program goals.
- Participate in strategic planning discussions to identify gaps in service delivery and propose solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred. High school diploma and/or GED plus work/life experience also accepted in lieu of degree.
Knowledge and experience with veteran services required.
Strong organization and communication skills required. Ability to work independently. Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word processing and spreadsheet software.
